I have been baking quite a bit of bread lately. Thus, we have a lot of leftover.
I have decided to make some organic bread crumbs from leftovers of whole wheat bread.
The process is quite straightforward: just leave old bread to dry and then crush it.
I have left it for almost a week on my kitchen counter.
And then made crumbs out of the dried bread.
It is a social conscious way of not wasting food. On top of that a good way to safe some money. In comparison with conventional products, I believe it is cheaper to make it yourself.
Trader Joe’s Organic breadcrumbs 2.99/10 oz
My husband used it to cook salmon with pistachio and bread crumbs crust. Check the recipe below, it is truly great!
Do we need to keep it in the refrigerator? This is a good idea to make our own bread crumbs

I think there is no need to keep it in the fridge. I just kept in on the kitchen counter, thus the bread would get really dry. You can also dry it in the oven, like in this link: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/homemade-italian-breadcrumbs-recipe.html 🙂
